Our thoughts
Visually this looks amazing, taking the bleak imagery of the first and notching it up. There'a a fantastic supporting cast here including - Steve Coogan, Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener and Zazie Beetz - but the main draw is to see what Joaquin Phoenix does in the role which already won him an Oscar and Lady gaga as Harley Quinn.

★★★★ Phoenix’s performance remains powerful and stirring The Independent
★★★★ A film you feel might burst into flames at any given moment. The Telegraph
★★★★ It finds a strange, tragic hopefulness all of its own Empire
